Frequently asked questions

To enroll in an HGV training course, you must have a valid driving license, be at least 18 years of age, and meet the minimum medical requirements for professional HGV drivers to apply for any HGV training course in Glasgow.

The salary for HGV/LGV drivers in the UK can vary based on a variety of factors such as experience, location, company size, and more. However, as a general guideline, the average salary for an HGV/LGV driver in the UK is around £31,787 per year, according to data from the UK government’s National Careers Service. This can vary significantly, with entry-level drivers earning around £17,000 per year, while experienced drivers and those working for larger companies can earn up to £45,000 or more per year.

The length of time it takes to learn to drive an HGV in the UK can vary based on several factors, including the type of licence you need, your previous driving experience, and the training provider you choose.

As a rough estimate, most HGV training courses in the UK last between 3 to 5 days for those with previous experience and up to 20 days for complete beginners. However, this can vary based on the course you choose and your individual circumstances.

It’s important to note that in addition to the practical driving training, you will also need to pass a theory test and a practical driving test to obtain your HGV licence. The time it takes to prepare for and pass these tests will also affect the overall length of time it takes to learn to drive an HGV.

In the UK, the minimum age to drive an HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) varies depending on the type of vehicle and the category of license.

For Category C1 (medium-sized lorries up to 7.5 tonnes), drivers must be at least 18 years old. For Category C (rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes) and Category C+E (articulated vehicles), drivers must be at least 21 years old.

In addition to the minimum age requirements, drivers must also hold a valid HGV driving licence, pass a medical examination, and pass a theory and practical driving test.

It’s important to note that some employers may also have their own age requirements for drivers, so it’s worth checking with potential employers to ensure you meet all the necessary criteria.

Passing the C and C+E categories of the HGV licence can increase your chances of finding work in the UK as these licences qualify you to drive larger vehicles such as articulated lorries and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

However, your chances of finding work will also depend on factors such as your level of experience, location, and the demand for HGV drivers in your area.

In general, the demand for HGV drivers in the UK is high, and there is often a shortage of qualified drivers. Many industries, such as logistics and construction, rely heavily on HGV drivers to transport goods and materials across the country. Therefore, if you have the relevant qualifications and a clean driving record, you should be able to find opportunities in the field.
